Welcome to Horsley Lodge Estate
Work. Stay. Play.
Horsley Lodge is a Par 72 – SS 73 course spanning 164 acres. Its 6544 yards wind beautifully through the Derbyshire countryside. Originally meadowland, it has transformed into a parkland course over the last 30 years, with trees providing each hole with distinctive definition.
About the Course
Horsley Lodge has many unique features. A Roman road passes through the course, and stones from the old Horsley Castle are incorporated into walls and tees. Water is a significant element, with two brooks creating lakes and watercourses throughout the course.
The views around the course and clubhouse are some of the most picturesque in England, overlooking the beautiful rolling Derbyshire hills
Outstanding Features
There are a number of outstanding features at Horsley Lodge for example a Roman road passes right through the course and stone from the abandoned old Horsley Castle can be seen in walls and tees within the golf course.
Water features heavily at Horsley on most holes as two brooks wind their way through the landscape with the constructors having damned them up to create lakes and water courses.
The views around the course and clubhouse are some of the most picturesque in England looking out over the beautiful rolling Derbyshire hills.
History of the Golf Course
Since 1990
Over the years, nearly 10,000 sapling trees have grown tall, and new bunkers and lakes have enhanced the landscape. Many professionals now rate Horsley Lodge’s layout and greens among the best they’ve played.
The Designers:
White and McEvoy
In 1998, Peter McEvoy OBE remodeled the greens to USGA standards. McEvoy highlighted the short 12th and long 17th holes as standout features. He said, “The 12th hole is the best Par 3 I’ve ever designed and fits beautifully in its surroundings.” Craig Cooke Construction, who had worked on the Loch Lomond and Valderama courses, expertly shaped the greens.
McEvoy, a World Amateur Champion in 1977 and 1978, has designed courses for over 20 years, including Fota Island in Ireland. After remodeling Horsley, he captained the GB and Ireland Walker Cup teams in 1999 and 2001. He was awarded the OBE in 2003 for ‘Services to golf’ and remains a trusted advisor to Horsley Lodge.
